The Cluster

Encased is one of the exploded submunitions 9N235 recovered from a residential building in the Sumy region, in early April 2022. It was fired at Ukraine by the Russian military following their withdrawal from the region.

The art piece is designed by Dmytro Petkun as part of his _memorybox_ concept, meant to capture and preserve important memories and events.

Artist's Motivation

"When I launched the _memorybox_ project, I envisioned preserving
positive memories; Never in my life could I imagine that this concept
would be used to memorialize the horrifying reality that my country is
currently enduring. Now, I want the _memorybox_ project to remind
everyone that we will soon collect all such ordinances from Ukrainian
fields and cities, dispose of them, rebuild Ukraine, and forever preserve its
independence.

For me, being a part of such a project means sharing the faith in our army,
the unity of our people, and the unbridled belief that we will persevere and
overcome one of the darkest moments of our history."
